Internal Communications Committee
The Internal Communications Committee's responsibilities are two-fold.  The committee manages communications to the membership and serves as a membership resource for existing and potential chapter members.  The committee oversees how information is distributed to members and publishes the monthly newsletter, Dispatch.  Serving under the committee chair, the Membership Coordinator is available to answer membership questions, connect members with National ASLA and implement membership recruiting efforts.  The committee's chair serves on the chapter's Executive Committee.

The committee is currently developing a Student Outreach Vision, an initiative based upon the following goals:
1. Increase Membership
2. Increase Communication with regional universities and colleges
3. Enhance Awareness of the Illinois Chapter and the benefits of membership
4. Enhance Preparedness of students entering professional practice

The vision focuses on Short Term Opportunities and the implementation of a Long Term Vision on local, regional and national scales.  The outreach includes a variety of group levels from high school, community college, university and young professionals that have just entered practice.

If you are interested in volunteering to serve on the committee or get involved in the Student Outreach Vision, please contact the Internal Communications Chair at int-communication@il-asla.org.

Public Service Committee
The Chapter's Public Service Committee works in a variety of areas to increase the exposure of Landscape Architecture in Illinois through developing partnerships to work on a variety of public service type projects.  The Chair of the Committee works with Brian Hopkins in advancing the passage of our state Practice Act and works with the National office in applying for grant funds to help support our Practice Act Legislative efforts.

One of our objectives is to enlist the pro bono support from Landscape Architects who may have an interest an / or expertise in specific areas.  For example, projects which are currently either underway or in discussion stages include Design Charrettes which include public facilities like the State Capitol grounds; working on a pilot program with a northern Illinois Boy Scout District in creating a Landscape architecture Merit Badge; working on a historic renovation in northern Illinois; and working on a pilot program with Habitat for Humanity.  These types of projects help to increase the public awareness of the Landscape Architecture profession through providing a public service to a variety of groups who will help publicize our profession.

We continue to seek volunteers for the Committee, especially Landscape Architects who have an interest in a possible local project in which we could become involved.  Persons interested in working with the Committee should contact the Committee Chair at public-service@il-asla.org.
