Advocacy Committee
advocacy@il-asla.org
The Advocacy Committee works on specific legislative issues, including professional licensure, that affect Chapter Members, such as licensure act upgrade and sunset legislation. The Advocacy Committee is guided by an appointed chairperson that is invited to attend the Executive Committee meetings, but is not a voting member. There are no term lengths for this committee. Committee members may serve at the pleasure of the Chapter President and the Committee Chair and may be repeatedly reappointed.

Education Committee
education@il-asla.org
The Education Committee organizes educational events for Chapter Members and the general public: conferences, workshops, tours, and lectures. In addition, a goal of this committee is to promote education and awareness of Landscape Architecture in our chapter’s secondary schools, colleges, and universities. Many events are held in conjunction with other allied professional organizations in order to provide a variety of topics for education and continuing study. Yearly activities include: LARE Review Sessions, Landscape Architecture Month (April) Activities, Career Fairs, ILASLA/ILAPA Joint Conference. Other activities may include co-sponsoring events with the Chicago Architecture Foundation and other similar organizations. The Education Committee Chair is a voting member of the Chapter Executive Committee.

External Communications Committee

The External Communications Committee oversees the publication of printed materials that are distributed to a targeted segment of the population, such as legislators, allied professionals, park and recreation agencies and other professional associations. The External Communications Committee has three subcommittees, Awards, Publications and Public Relations. The External Communications Committee Chair is a voting member of the Chapter Executive Committee.

External Communications Sub-Committee:
Awards

The Awards Subcommittee operates under the direction of the President Elect and each year organizes all aspects of the Illinois Chapter Awards Program, including preparing and distributing the awards nominating packets, organizing jurying of the awards by another ASLA chapter, notification of award recipients and non-recipients and organizing presentation of the awards at the annual awards dinner, Celebration.

Publications

The Publications Subcommittee organizes the publication of Elevation - a printed quarterly newsletter, Folio - a printed annual yearbook featuring award winning projects and Source - a listing of member firms that is published every two-three years.

Public Relations
The Public Relations Subcommittee is responsible for the design and publication of display and printed materials used for membership and marketing purposes and coordination of public relations activities, such as trade show attendance.

Fellowship Committee
fellowship@il-asla.org
The Fellowship Committee organizes all social events for the chapter. The committee often works with the education, public service and internal communications committees when planning fellowship events. The committee also reaches out to allied professional organizations to work together on joint events and programs. Annual events include a golf outing, mixers for young professionals, dinners with professional allies, and the annual awards dinner, Celebration. The Fellowship Committee Chair is a voting member of the Chapter Executive Committee.

Internal Communications Committee
int-communication@il-asla.org
The Internal Communications Committee responsibilities are two-fold. The committee manages communications to the membership and serves as a membership resource for existing and potential chapter members. The Committee is responsible for maintaining the Chapter calendar, overseeing how information is distributed to members (via the newsletter, website and email), publishing the monthly newsletter - Dispatch, and assisting the Chapter Secretary with preparation of the Annual Report. During an Annual Meeting, along with the Fellowship and Education Committees, the Committee is responsible for gathering sponsorship, assisting with event planning, scheduling the event - arranging for space, catering, distributing the invitation, preparing display boards for committees and initiatives, and preparing the committee sign-up sheets. The Internal Communications Committee Chair is a voting member of the Chapter Executive Committee.

Internal Communications Sub-Committee Committees:
Membership/Student Outreach
membership@il-asla.org
The Membership/Student Outreach Subcommittee is available to answer membership questions, connect members with National ASLA and implement membership recruiting efforts. Membership services include solicitation of new members, welcome letters to new and renewed members, letters to lapsed members, letters to student members and other services to increase and retain members. Mailings, faxes and emails are coordinated with the assistance of the Association Manager who holds the master contact list for chapter members.

Marketing Committee
The Marketing Committee was formed in 2005 by senior members of the profession to provide leadership for the chapter and the profession, outside of the ILASLA Executive Committee.  The purpose of the committee is to elevate the awareness and appreciation for the profession, by funding high impact projects that reach key audiences, including architects, engineers, park districts, municipal leadership and corporate clients. The Marketing Committee advances the profession over the long term, raising its own funds and distributing money via an application process.  Most recently the committee funded a project with the Chicago Architecture Foundation, a video and the printing of a brochure on the field of landscape architecture. The marketing committee meets twice annually in person, in August and February, and as needed to review grant applications.  The committee’s chapter liaison is the president elect.

Marketing Committee Grant Program: The goal of the Grant Program is to provide financial resources to develop grassroots projects that help implement the ILASLA Strategic Plan and advance the profession of landscape architecture. Through this program, associations and individuals may receive matching funds for projects through ILASLA. In line with the Strategic Plan, the project topic categories are Ethics, Policy, Practice, Information and Effectiveness. Applications are accepted throughout the year and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis (the grant application form includes guidelines).

Public Service Committee
public-service@il-asla.org
The Public Service Committee coordinates all legislative efforts, pro-bono projects, and other efforts as designated by the Chapter President. Activities include: organizing the mentoring of Boy Scouts seeking the Landscape Architecture Merit Badge, arranging pro-bono work and design charettes, and attending Lobby Day Events (both state and national). The Committee also monitors state and national legislation that affects or influences the profession and ILASLA members. The chair works closely with the ASLA Office of Government Affairs. The Legislative Committee serves as a subset of the Public Service Committee. The Public Service Committee Chair is a voting member of the Executive Committee.
