In an attempt to continue its lakefront renaissance, the City of Cleveland has adopted a comprehensive plan for revitalizing lands adjacent to Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River. Across 3,000 acres, the city will create 16 miles of waterfront access, with an additional 200 acres of alternative space possible for redevelopment. The plan includes five new marinas, five new beaches as well as improving two existing beaches, and 670 acres of newly-created park land. The city also plans to add 7,400 new housing units and almost four million square feet of new office and retail space. A new lakefront boulevard will eliminate five miles of highway ramps and create a nine-mile bike path along Lake Erie.
The goal of the plan is to identify key public investment opportunities that in turn will spur private-sector investment. Landscape architects conducted extensive field and data analysis, meeting with a wide variety of groups and individuals to ensure the plan provides a framework for citywide collaboration.
