PUBLIC RECOGNITION AWARD

Countryside Vision Plan
Aurora, Illinois

The Public Recognition Award honors members of the community who have promoted, enhanced, or strengthened the public awareness and perception of the profession of landscape architecture in Illinois. This award is our vehicle for celebrating those individuals or organizations, outside of our profession, who understand the mission of the landscape architect and the vital role we play in shaping the environment.

This year, the recipient of our Public Recognition Award is the Countryside Vision Plan. The plan was created through an agreement between the City of Aurora, Kane County, Land Vision, Inc., Kane County Forest Preserve District, and the Conservation Foundation. Its objective is to ensure that public open space, resource conservation, and protection of natural features are key components of all development within a 4,000-acre area on Aurora's far west side.

A detailed document, the vision plan addresses the following elements: residential and non-residential areas, open space, transportation and roadway network design, stormwater management, and landscaping and natural elements. It also establishes guiding principles and techniques for development.

The Countryside Vision Plan is the first step in fostering high quality development on the far west side of Aurora. It strives to establish truly valuable guidelines and techniques that will help the City of Aurora create an innovative living environment that harmonizes with nature.
