The Village of Lincolnshire had two primary goals when they acquired over 60 acres of land at the southeast corner of Riverwoods and Everett Roads: to annex the property to the Village and to permanently preserve the open space for the benefit of the residents of the Village.
A unique 'L-shaped' parcel, the land contains the west fork of the north branch of the Chicago River, wooded wetlands, and native trees. It is also adjacent to the Florsheim Preserve, a 50-acre property owned by the Illinois Nature Conservancy.
As lead designer and project manager, the landscape architect was selected to direct the multi-year development of North Park. This included completing the following activities: developing a master plan to improve the cleared area for active recreation and to restore the wooded areas; completing construction cost estimates and phasing options; and leading the consultant team through all stages of project implementation.
The landscape architect implemented unique features that integrated North Park with the surrounding environment, including designing a new trail system;planting all landscaped areas with prairie grasses, wildflowers and trees; and clearing land to make the Chicago River visible and accessible.
