The Community Service Award honors those individuals who have made significant contributions to the improvement of communities in Illinois, with particular emphasis on public landscapes.
This year, the recipient of our Community Service Award is Greg Stevens, who is being honored for his contribution to the Good Samaritan Hospital's Share Angel Garden. An exceptional example of landscape architecture, the garden demonstrates how materials, color, texture, elevations, sculpture, pedestrian movement and water can be integrated into a beautiful place.
The significance of the Share Angel Garden goes beyond its design and beauty. A special haven, the garden has been created for families like Greg and Joan Stevens who have lost children. To date, due to their efforts, over $100,000 has been raised to fund the garden. With his years of experience and understanding of the practice of landscape architecture, Greg Stevens has provided for a very special garden that will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
The participation of the Good Samaritan Hospital staff, ground maintenance personnel, and foundation volunteers has had a strong impact on the public's understanding of the practice of landscape architecture.
